Here in Texas, it's that time of the year when people start complaining about how hot it is, like every single year. And this is an ongoing pattern for most people. It's too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, too wet when it rains, and too dry when it doesn't.

No matter where you live, it's going to be cold when it's supposed to be cold, and it's going to be hot when it's supposed to be hot.

Isn't it always the same? Don't these cycles repeat year after year?

I get it. It's a way of having small talk to break the ice sometimes. Maybe you are visiting. Maybe you just moved to a new place and you haven’t adapted to that location's particular weather. But you will.

In the meantime, rise above the complaints and embrace the weather with a different perspective.

The yogis understand that the weather, like any other aspect of life, is impermanent and always changing. They recognize that the body is a remarkable instrument, capable of adapting to different environments and conditions. While extreme heat or cold may be really uncomfortable, a yogi approaches the day indifferently, they simply enjoy it.

Acceptance and adaptability. That’s what we should remember when we hop into our car after being out in the sun for hours and it's 104°F (40°C) inside. Understand that discomfort is a temporary state and that enduring it for a little bit can lead to you becoming more adaptable and making your body and mind stronger.

A yogi doesn't allow petty things like the weather to ruin their plans. The yogi continues to engage in activities they love, regardless of external conditions. And seeks shelter, only if those conditions pose a direct threat to their body. But that only happens rarely, doesn't it?

Don't let transient discomfort or inconveniences deter you. Your external environment should not dictate your inner joy and fulfillment. You create that inside of you. You have the power to choose your attitude in any given circumstances.

As you listen to people around you complaining, remember your body is resilient, adaptable, and intelligent. Don’t complain. Accept it. Enjoy it. Rise above it.
