A beautiful bat silently swirled around me, performing a few acrobatics, and then swiftly plunged towards the water. Gently brushing the surface of the water, the bat drank a little bit and continued on its way. It was a majestic display of the perfection of nature simply doing its thing.

The sound of the water flowing through the rocks. The movement of the trees dancing with the gentle breeze. The beauty of the sunset sky turning from blue to pink, purple, and red.

I couldn’t help but feel admiration for nature, for life, for the present. And a sense of serenity and appreciation for all the little moments, like that one, when I was sitting on a rock immersed in the stillness of the moment drinking Yerba Mate.

Life is not always eventful; life is mostly composed of seemingly mundane events. But as Albert Einstein once said, “there are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

Waking up embraced by fresh and clean bed sheets, tasting the freshness of the toothpaste while brushing your teeth, enjoying the warm water running down your shoulders when taking a shower, smelling the scent of your morning coffee, listening to the birds singing at sunrise, feeling the breeze of spring on your skin, relishing the smell of food cooking in the pan.

Snuggling with your dog, feeling the grass between your toes when walking barefoot, noticing the movement of your chest every time you take a breath, smelling and listening to the sounds of the city when driving around town. The sound of your steps when going for a walk.

I could go on and on listing daily things you experience every day. Simple things. There are so many things around you that can be perceived as magical, as interesting, as a miracle. You only need to change your mindset towards them. Because the reality is that the majority of your life will be made up of ordinary and simple moments. Routine activities you go through day in and day out.

Listen closely. Watch attentively. Appreciate the simple joys that surround you and live with an eternal sense of wonder.
