From the most tangible layer, our body; to the innermost part of our being, the spirit. These are the principles that define our humanity. The Yogi philosophy places great importance on understanding our composition because it equips us with the knowledge of who we truly are. It allows us to navigate life more effectively.
For example, when we acknowledge that our minds consist of three different parts and that we are not our minds, we can separate ourselves from negative thought patterns and emotions. We can identify the nature of each part of our mind, recognize it and therefore control it. We can choose to use them when they serve us and ignore them when they don't.
And if we understand that our bodies are not our true selves but rather vehicles for expression, we can train and use them to their fullest potential. Detaching ourselves from the physical form allows us to approach physical challenges with a mindset of growth and learning. We can truly train our bodies to do anything we set our minds to.
More importantly, recognizing the inner light within each of us leads to a sense of interconnectedness with others. It fosters kindness and eliminates the barriers of racism by reminding us that we are all part of the same human race. Our bodies are mere shells, and our true essence transcends physical differences.
These are the reasons why the Yogis emphasize self-understanding. Life is an ongoing experiment. They encourage us to explore and prove these principles through personal research and experiences. Having clarity transforms our understanding of ourselves.
For some, spiritual awakening or consciousness may come suddenly, like a flash of illumination. Poets, philosophers, and enlightened individuals throughout history have experienced this profound realization of cosmic interconnectedness. However, for most of us, spiritual growth happens gradually through lived experiences, acquiring knowledge, and learning lessons. It is through this process that we come to recognize our true selves.
Remember these principles and internalize them. When the mind becomes troubled, remember that it is separate from your true self, and you have the power to control it. When faced with physical challenges, remember you can train it to perfection. And when connecting with fellow humans, remember that they have the same inner light. Treat everyone with kindness and respect.
