Invest in Understanding Yourself
The Yogis teach that in order for humankind to fully advance to the next stages, collectively, we have to unfold, and develop and learn lessons and improve and raise our consciousness. We have to make a conscious effort to invest in the understanding of ourselves, just as we invest in new technologies.
Technology is advancing very fast, and our understanding of human nature is struggling to keep up. To ensure a balanced progress, we must advance in both realms simultaneously. Too much technology without proper understanding of reality and the human nature can, and probably will, lead us to undesired consequences.
In the afterword of Sapiens, Yuval Noah Harari writes about how we have advanced so much in technology, in transportation methods, in the industrialization of things. We are like almost our own gods creating everything but in reality, we haven't alleviated human suffering. It is probably less than it was before but still, there's a lot of people suffering in the world. And in regards to other sentient beings, we have increased their suffering. We have industrialized our consumption of animals and we're destroying their habitats, we are destroying nature, and their ecosystems. We are putting other species through huge amounts of suffering.
So what is the point? What is the point in advancing so much in anything? If we are not going to make more humans and other beings happier? If we are not going to alleviate their suffering?
The Yogis teach that in order for humankind to fully advance to the next stages, collectively, we have to unfold, and develop and learn lessons and improve and raise our consciousness. Until we all love all our fellow human beings as we love our children, our parents. Until we love all animals on earth as we love our own pets. We have to make a conscious effort to invest in the understanding of ourselves, just as we invest in new technologies.
