In the contemporary twist, 'Spirited,' inspired by and a sort of modern retelling of Charles Dickens' classic, 'A Christmas Carol,' Ryan Reynolds portrays a typical businessman, self-absorbed and lacking empathy.
But there’s a turning point in his character that comes in a moment of selflessness when he jumps in front of a bus to save a friend (sorry for the spoiler). The scene then unfolds into a dance and song.
And some of the lyrics go, "So can we do a little good? Maybe give a little more? Work a little harder than we did the day before. It only takes a little good and some doin' what you can." These words encapsulate the essence of the Yogi teachings, emphasizing that perfection is unattainable, but that the commitment to doing a little better each day is enough.
The message here is clear – life is a continuous journey of self-improvement. "Two steps forward, one step back," they sing. And it's in this acknowledgment that the Yogi philosophy shines brightest. Be kind, do the best you can, and allow everyone the same privilege.
"Maybe there's no magic wand, maybe there's no switch to flip… Now you know the line of good and bad is not so clean, and what we are is something in between." Imperfection is part of the human experience, and by striving to do good, even in small ways, you align yourself with the right path.
Life is complex, and our choices fall on a spectrum. What matters is the intention behind your actions. What matters is doing the best you know how at this specific point in time. What matters is making the choice to be slightly better than before.
So, as you go about your day, do a little good, give a little more, work a little harder than you did yesterday, and “take every chance to make the choice to help your fellow man.”
Remember, it only takes a little good to make a significant impact on someone else’s life.
If you have found value in the Daily Yogi emails, can you briefly share why?
