It Will Leave You Feeling Refreshed

After showering, “one should rub the hands vigorously over the body several times. There is something in the human hands that cannot be duplicated by a cloth or towel. Try it for yourself.”

Using my hands, I carefully wipe away the remaining droplets of water from my skin. With gentle strokes, I brush them away, starting with my damp hair and working my way down to my arms, then torso, and finally my legs. Then, I give my fingers a quick shake to release any lingering moisture. It's a ritual I've performed since I was young, one that my dad taught me.

My father may not be a yogi, but he embodies many of the principles of the Yogi philosophy. One of these is his advice to "shed the excess water" after showering and before drying off with a towel.

It's almost as if he had taken inspiration from Yogi Ramacharaka's words, recommending that, after showering, “one should rub the hands vigorously over the body several times. There is something in the human hands that cannot be duplicated by a cloth or towel. Try it for yourself.”

It is important to clean your skin daily. In addition to the kidneys and breathing, the skin is responsible for eliminating waste products through its pores on a continuous basis.

In addition, the outer layer of skin is made up of cells that are continuously replaced by new ones. While clothing helps to shed dead skin cells, not all of them are removed. That's why taking daily baths is essential; it helps to eliminate the buildup of dead skin cells and sweat waste from your body.

There is something satisfying about using your hands to dry off after a shower. I don’t know what it is, but it feels good. Almost like a massage for your skin. And not only that, it also has practical benefits. You are actually helping to keep yourself partially dry. When you use your towel, it won't get as wet.

So next time, before you step out of the shower, try incorporating this simple practice into your routine. Use your hands to wipe away the water from your skin. It may seem like a small thing, but it's an act of self-care and self-love that will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
