They were sent out with empty pockets and a list of impossible rules. Ask no one for help, miss no meal, and return by nightfall. Sri Yukteswar’s errand to Brindaban sounded less like a journey and more like a trap. Two boys, no money, and the human tendency to worry. What else could it produce but fear?
But the test has nothing to do with money.
In Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda recounts how he and a friend obeyed their guru’s conditions and stepped into the day without the usual defenses. They did not hint at their need. They did not beg. And yet the day met them with unsolicited generosity. Meals were offered, travel was provided, and doors were opening at the right time, until they were back by nightfall, just as instructed.
