In ancient China, people used to trap monkeys using coconuts. They'd carve out the inside and put rice in it, just enough so a monkey could grab it with its hand. But here's the catch: the hole was only big enough for an open hand to fit in, not a closed fist with rice in it.
So, when a hungry monkey spotted the rice, it would reach in to grab it. Once it had a hold of the rice, its fist became too big to pull back out through the hole.
The monkeys that got caught were the ones who wouldn't let go of the rice.
See, as long as the monkey held onto the rice, it was stuck. The trap worked because the monkey's grip was stronger than its ability to let go.
You need to ask yourself: What's your "rice"? What's holding you back from letting go?
What are you holding onto so tightly that it's keeping you trapped? Negative thought patterns? Preconceived ideas? Limiting beliefs?
Sometimes, when a monkey is really hungry, it thinks there's only one way to get food, like that rice in the coconut trap. But if it just lets go of that rice, it can find food all over the place. Food is everywhere.
So, just like the monkey needs to let go of the rice to find food, you need to let go of your limiting beliefs and open yourself up to all the knowledge that's out there waiting for you. Because knowledge is everywhere—you just have to be open and ready to receive it.
Let go of those preconceived ideas. Open up your heart. Open your mind. Discard what doesn’t serve you anymore. Keep learning.
