He still calls it the best day he ever had on a bike. He also hasn't walked since.

Fletcher Crowley and his mates had spent weeks building a jump, and that morning he was set on landing a double backflip, one none of them had pulled off before. Their phones came out, and he put up an Instagram story before he'd even lined up his run. The whole crew was buzzing for what was coming.

But he didn't rotate fast enough. He threw the bike clear, kept spinning through the air, and folded onto his upper back and neck. Two rods and twelve screws hold his spine together now. He lay in the dirt holding a close friend's hand, said something dark, and watched that friend break down in front of him. That was the moment he understood what the fall had done.
