Let The Water Flow Through You
Drink plenty of water and do not shy away from things that make you sweat.
After three years of being “incapable of moving a single limb,” the Indian chief slowly regained the use of his hands, arms, legs, and toes. He was delighted to recover from his paralysis.
“The captains decided on heat therapy. They built a sweat lodge for the chief and put him in,” Stephen Ambrose wrote in his famous book 'Undaunted Courage,' the story of the Lewis and Clark expedition to discover the western part of the American continent during the early 1800s.
Lewis and Clark served as both doctors for their crews and Indian hosts throughout their journey, experimenting with various treatments to heal their patients. On this occasion, they succeeded by inducing the chief to sweat profusely, which helped eliminate the toxins responsible for his condition.
It is no secret that our body is about 70% water, and our system continuously excretes water through the pores of the skin. This happens in two ways: sweat and perspiration. Sweat is liquid; you can see it. Perspiration is vapor; you cannot see it.
Both sweat and perspiration are full of waste and toxins from the system—everything your body doesn't need. If it stays in the body, you poison it and invite disease. This is what might have happened to the Indian chief. And when he was exposed to continuous and extreme sweats, he expelled all those toxins and filth that were stored in his body.
In the branch of the Yogi Science focused on the physical body, known as Hatha Yoga, the Yogis emphasize two important principles regarding water:
First, drink plenty of it to ensure your body has the fluids necessary to transport the used-up materials out of your system.
Second, do not shy away from things that make you sweat. In fact, try doing more of those activities to help your body get rid of all the waste.
