Test Everything You Learn
Life is a ceaseless journey of self-discovery. Define for yourself what position, what attitude, what beliefs you hold to be true.
"We are all like those who first repeat the unquestionable ‘truth’ told to us by our grandmothers, then the ‘truth’ told to us by our teachers, and then, when we become older, the ‘truth’ told to us by prominent people."
You are presented with new information every day. It’s a constant bombardment of new ideas, especially nowadays, where it’s so easy to jump from one platform to the next. You read this email, you have conversations with your friends and family, you follow people you admire on social media, you watch YouTube videos, you read news, you listen to podcasts, you watch documentaries, you have mentors—the list is endless.
It is your job and responsibility to test all of that information and prove it for yourself. Not just blindly believe everything you are told, including the very words you are reading right now. Go and use your intellect. It is that part of your mind that was given to you to reason, deduce, analyze, and think.
Follow the advice of Leo Tolstoy who said,
“A man should use that spiritual heritage which he has received from the wise and holy people of the past, but he should test everything with his intellect, accepting certain things and rejecting others.”
In life, this exposure to new ideas, to new discoveries and learnings, whether through experience or through the teachings of someone else, won't stop. They will keep coming until you die.
It is a ceaseless journey of self-discovery. Define for yourself what position, what attitude, what beliefs you hold to be true.
If you have found value in the Daily Yogi emails, can you briefly share why?
