Look at the world of a few hundred years ago, and look at it today, and see how much kinder and more loving we are than in those days.
The sixth principle is the spiritual mind. All that we consider good, noble, and great in the human mind emanates from this part and is gradually unfolded into our consciousness. Nobility, true religious feeling, kindness, humanity, justice, unselfish love, mercy, sympathy, etc. It is that “something within," which guides us up to higher and nobler thoughts, desires, and actions.
The spiritual mind is the source of the 'inspiration’ which poets, painters, sculptors, writers, preachers, philosophers, musicians and creators have received across time. The voice of their higher self. The voice that comes from within. The one that has guided many to embrace high ideals in their work.
You don’t get this feelings from the instinctive mind. Your intellect doesn’t make you feel them. The spiritual mind passes down to the intellect certain truths found in higher parts of the mind, and the intellect reasons about them. But they do not originate from the intellect. We don’t become kind or loving by cold reasoning.
We become kind and loving because there’s certain impulses within us coming from some unknown place. The spiritual mind is warm and alive with higher feelings. The intellect is cold.
The Yogi philosophy teaches that as we grow spiritually, we start feeling connected to all people, and our love for everyone keeps growing. It starts to hurt us when we see others suffering, and eventually, we are compelled to take action. As we continue to develop, the immense suffering that many people go through today will become unbearable for the whole human race. And we will collectively demand solutions to these problems. It all starts within each of us.
When you learn to trust your inner spirit, it responds by giving you more moments of insight and understanding. As your spiritual consciousness unfolds, you rely more on this inner voice, and it becomes easier to distinguish it from lower impulses of the mind. Learn to follow your spiritual mind and allow it to be your guide.
This is a series of emails describing the composition of us humans. I will briefly write about the general nature of each of these seven principles. At the end of this email series, I will send a downloadable PDF file so that you can have them handy and continue studying them to gain a complete understanding of yourself.
