Death Is But An Aspect of Life
Embracing the understanding of the immortality of the soul is a profound journey towards finding peace, not just with your own body’s mortality but with the inevitability of your loved ones' passing as well.
We celebrate it. We have fun with it. We wear costumes, drink, and party. In my home country, we even build altars for the deceased to honor them and showcase their personalities when they were alive. We enjoy watching horror movies, true crime, and all things spooky. We do all of this as if we don't fear death, as if we truly embrace it.
But the truth is, we are afraid. When someone we love dies or when we contemplate our own mortality, we cry and suffer. We don't want to die, and we don't want our loved ones to die either. It's only natural, as we are deeply attached to our material existence, and we will remain attached until we reach a certain level of spiritual maturity, a higher degree of understanding.
How are we supposed to not fear death if we believe this is our only life? If we think that we will cease to exist forever?
The Yogi philosophy offers solace in the face of death. In fact, the Yogis believe that “death is but an aspect of life, and the destruction of one material form is but a prelude to the building up of another.”
“YOU are a soul, and have a body. Think of yourself as an independent being, using the body as a convenience. Cultivate the feeling of immortality and reality, and you will gradually begin to realize that you really exist and will always exist, and fear will drop from you like a discarded cloak.”
This doesn't mean that you should take your current physical life lightly. On the contrary, you are experiencing precisely what you need for your ultimate growth. Learn your lessons. Make the most of it, and strive to become a little better every day. And, if you want to experience real peace surrounding the topic of death, you must understand that this is not your only life.
Let this idea take root in your mind, and you will gradually shed the weight of the fear of death. Embracing the understanding of the immortality of the soul is a profound journey towards finding peace, not just with your own body’s mortality but with the inevitability of your loved ones' passing as well. Find the courage to celebrate both life and the journey that lies beyond.
