Who Are the Yogis?
Highly developed souls focused on mental, spiritual, and physical development to propel humankind forward. We aspire to be like them. They are examples to follow.
In his 'Meditations,' Marcus Aurelius never wrote the word stoic or mentioned stoicism, yet he is one of the major references for this philosophy.
Don Miguel Ruiz, in his book 'The Mastery of Love,' writes about ancient masters who were examples of self-love, forgiveness, reflection, compassion, and truth. Some of these minds were well-known spiritual figures: Buddha, Jesus, Krishna. And although he never used the term yogi to describe them, they are considered Yogi masters.
A Yogi master? As in mastering yoga postures? Or someone who sits for long periods of time without moving a limb? Not at all. A Yogi master is an advanced mind who mastered all human principles and achieved a level of consciousness beyond our comprehension. Highly developed souls focused on mental, spiritual, and physical development to propel humankind forward.
These yogi masters come from the East. From India, Persia, Ancient Greece, and Egypt. They did not refer to themselves as yogis. It is difficult to determine when the term yogi began being used to describe these individuals. However, what we do know is that they indeed existed. We have extensive records documenting centuries of their thoughts, experiments, investigations, and demonstrations.
Their teachings were passed down through generations from teachers to students, forming a well-established science. One that is not exclusive to a single individual but the collective wisdom of many.
We aspire to be like them. They are examples to follow. In full control of their bodies and minds. In full touch with Spirit, the divine part of them. To them pain stops hurting, obstacles stop interfering. They have broken free from limitations, they are free from desire. They loved everyone and everything.
We will eventually become like them, but not in this lifetime. Many ages may pass before reaching such heights, but we are on our way.
We must keep playing our part in the world, following our unique path of self-discovery, growth, and development. Being kind, doing the best we know how, and allowing others to be themselves. Always working on ourselves, learning with every single experience, and having the awareness to listen to the advice of those who have walked the path before us.
