The other day, I saw a billboard on top of a church that said, “Culture in Crisis.” And I thought, wow, that’s dramatic. Then, we have always been in crisis if that's how you want to see it. Are we ‘in crisis’ because things are changing? Or are they just using that expression to complain about the fact that they are losing followers?
What that religious billboard really meant to say is: We are losing followers. People are becoming ‘infidels.’ So we must come up with a message to blame society instead of our orthodox and sometimes unreasonable teachings.
The world is just changing, as it always has; it is not in crisis. It’s not useful to see everything in crisis. It won’t do anything good for you or for others. Having a positive outlook on life is what moves humankind forward. Understanding and accepting that the world is full of different perspectives. Allowing everyone to be themselves and believe what makes sense to them.
It’s not people’s fault. It’s not that society is in a state of despair. It’s not that humans are becoming ‘evil.’ It’s simply that more and more people find the churches of the world to go contrary to reason. Some of their teachings simply don’t make sense.
My parents, some of my friends and family, and some school teachers asked me to have ‘blind faith’ and shut up. To not ask questions. To not try to understand the esoteric teachings of religion. To simply follow their rules, even when some of them are irrational.
The Yogi philosophy reconciles faith and reason. On the one hand, faith; which, according to the Yogis, is confident expectation. And on the other hand, reason; which is what the intellect uses to analyze the world.
Religious or not. Spiritual or not. Embrace change and diverse perspectives. Rather than labeling everything as a crisis, cultivate understanding and open-mindedness. The evolving beliefs of individuals should be met with acceptance, encouraging a world where faith and reason coexist harmoniously.
Always respecting the different paths people take. Instead of blaming society or culture, we must adapt to the evolving collective consciousness.
How do you perceive the evolving nature of beliefs and change in society?
