Let The Sun Shine On You

Tap into this cosmic wellspring of vitality. Open your windows. Invite the sun's energy to infuse your living space with health, vitality, and strength. Venture outside, take occasional sun baths — especially in the morning when the sun's rays are gentle and rejuvenating.

Every morning, my pup Zoe wakes up, goes out the doggy door and into the backyard, lies down on the grass, closes her eyes, and soaks in the morning sun. It’s an instinctive ritual for her — as if she were charging herself up. It’s really cute and a good reminder for myself to get out into the morning sun and do the same.

We've all seen the stars at night. All of those tiny, blinking, bright dots are suns, just like our own. As NASA describes it:

"From our vantage point on Earth, the Sun may appear like an unchanging source of light and heat in the sky. But the Sun is a dynamic star, constantly changing and sending energy out into space."

This description matches what Yogi Ramacharaka wrote in Hatha Yoga: The Yogi Philosophy of Physical Well-Being, that the sun “is constantly drawing to itself a current of Prana from the planets, passing it through some wonderful process of Nature and sending a return current to the planets.”

Prana is Sanskrit for vital force, and this vital force comes from the sun. It is everywhere — in the air you breathe, the food you eat, the water you drink, all charged with prana and all derived from the sun.

The sun is the greatest radiator of energy for our planetary system. It is the powerhouse of prana. Its rays are filled with vibrations of vitality and life. The sun is, quite literally, the source of life for all living things, including ourselves.

If our planet didn’t receive sunlight, it would be a lifeless orb.

When the Yogis speak of the sun's rays, they aren't referring to mere heat. The energy emanating from the sun is not inherently hot; it only takes on that quality when it interacts with Earth's atmosphere. Outer space is actually cold.

So, be like Zoe. Tap into this cosmic wellspring of vitality. Open your windows. Invite the sun's energy to infuse your living space with health, vitality, and strength. Venture outside, take occasional sun baths — especially in the morning when the sun's rays are gentle and rejuvenating. But avoid exposing yourself too much to the harsh midday sun, which can do more harm than good.

Allow the sun to touch your skin; shed your clothes if you can (just don’t get naked in the middle of the street) and feel the invigorating energy flow through your body.

Let the sun shine on you, and in return, you'll find yourself filled with a radiant vitality that connects you to the very source of life itself.

What's the temperature of the sun's core?
