That’s the Way It Is
Rules, policies and laws will continue chasing after the collective consciousness. And the collective is formed by individuals like you. So, change starts with yourself.
“Change doesn't come from Washington; it comes to Washington.”
I recently heard this quote from Senator Cory Booker on the Rich Roll podcast. I don’t even know who that person is or what he stands for, but the quote was good. It reminded me of one of the three pillars of Right-Action, or Dharma in Sanskrit, explained by the Yogis.
The theory of Utility. Which basis is “the greatest happiness to the greatest number.”
They say that “the laws of a country fairly represent the needs, ideas, and intelligence of the average citizen composing that country.” And “when the people, or the average of them, outgrow a law, they do away with it— when the average of the race demand a new law, they get it, sooner or later.”
Laws, ethics and morals are constantly changing. And although the laws represent the average consciousness of its citizens, they are imperfect. Lawmakers are always a step behind. This happens in every country around the world.
That's why sometimes we cannot conceive why certain laws haven't changed. That’s why we see outdated policies and rules. The bureaucracy of the government is slow to act. That is the way it is, it has always been and it will always be. Rules, policies and laws will continue chasing after the collective consciousness.
And the collective is formed by individuals like you. So, change starts with yourself. Because you cannot control what other people do or think, right? You can influence them, sure, but only to a certain extent. Focus on improving every day. Be kind. Be honest. Be active. Participate. Contribute. Like the cliché but true quote from Mahatma Gandhi, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
