Working Hard Is Not The Secret
Take the time to reflect on what truly makes you feel excited and distinctive. Success is about aligning your actions with your desires and embracing your own set of experiences, knowledge, and skills. Strive not just for financial stability but for a fulfilling and meaningful life.
We hear it over and over again: hustle, that’s the secret to financial success. And, although money and material possessions are not the key to living a fulfilling life, they are essential to get by in this world. You need money to take care of yourself and your family's basic necessities; it's unavoidable.
I fell into the trap of this 'hustle culture' when working on my restaurant venture. Although I am grateful for it, learned many lessons, and it was the path I had to follow. After 10 years, I realized I didn’t have balance in my life. I sacrificed too much. I liked solving problems, connecting with people, and sharing positive ideas and kindness through the restaurant, but I didn’t love the culinary aspect of it. That’s the reason I stepped off that path.
Effort is indeed a component of success; you have to take consistent action to accomplish things. But success isn't about relentless hard work. The key is finding your individuality: to think, speak, and act in line with what you want, to know yourself, and to discover what makes you unique. To use your specific set of experiences, knowledge, skills, desires and make a living out of it.
That, to me, is success. To wake up every day eager to do what you are about to do. And not to accumulate unnecessary amounts of money, just enough to live comfortably.
What can you bring to the world? What do you do better than other people? What do you actually enjoy doing? What have you experienced? What is it that you most desire? And how can you make money from this?
Mike Dooley, creator of ‘Notes from The Universe,' who writes daily short passages as if it were the Universe speaking to you, wrote:
“These folks who meet with life’s success and then tell the world it was due to their hard work really make my job challenging. They almost never work harder than others. They don’t even work smarter than others. They simply leveraged the magic by thinking, speaking, and acting in line with what they wanted. But, oh no, they have to go out and tell impressionable minds that it was their hard work, and so, for all who listen and nod, it becomes hard work.”
