What is the Universe made of? Matter? Energy? Mind?

Is matter and energy all there is? As scientists believe.

Or is matter an ‘illusion’? As some spiritual people believe.

The Yogis caution against the two extremes. Making matter a God or dismissing it as an illusion. Instead, they advocate for a balanced perspective—one that acknowledges the significance of matter without deifying it, recognizing its essential role in the fabric of existence.

They teach that matter, mind, and energy are different manifestations of the same underlying principle. A Universal Mind—The Absolute—The Manifestator of Manifestations. An intelligence that uses energy and matter as its instruments for expression.

In the past, mass and energy were perceived as separate until Einstein's groundbreaking equation, E = mc², revealed their interchangeability. This equation underscores the profound unity of matter and energy—a concept that revolutionized physics and our understanding of the universe.

“It followed from the special theory of relativity that mass and energy are both but different manifestations of the same thing,” Einstein said, “a somewhat unfamiliar conception for the average mind.”

This unified perspective resonates with the teachings of the Yogis, who teach that the entire cosmos is composed of these fundamental manifestations: matter, energy, and mind.

Imagine these manifestations are like water: at certain temperatures, it flows as liquid; lower the temperature, it solidifies into ice, yet the molecules remain the same. Heat it further, and it transforms into steam.

Similarly, mind, energy, and matter are merely different states of the same fundamental essence, each transitioning seamlessly into the other.

As Yogi Ramacharaka explains, “The Absolute uses its finest form of Manifestation (Mind in its higher form) for certain expression, and Mind in turn, uses the lower vehicles, Energy and Matter as its tools; instruments; conveniences; and vehicles for expression. Mind must always have a body of matter in order to manifest itself at all.”

There’s so much more for us humans to discover. We are slowly transcending the limitations of narrow thinking. Slowly and steadily embracing the profound interconnectedness of the universe. Let’s appreciate the intricate dance of matter, energy, and mind that shapes our reality. See the world as a wonderful expression of a miraculous intelligence.
