As you grow in life, you are exposed to myriad different experiences, belief systems, perspectives, and opinions. Some of them completely contradict each other. At times, you find yourself wondering if it’s a good idea to stick with what you have always believed or change how you think.

Perhaps the best approach is to “be ready to change our views at any time, and throw off prejudices, and live with an open and receptive mind,” as American economist and author Henry George wisely advises. “A sailor who sets the same sails all the time, without making changes when the wind changes, will never reach his harbor.”

Absorb the things that serve your development as a human - things that help you become the best version of yourself.

Many of the beliefs I had when I was young are completely different from what I believe right now. Don’t be afraid of accepting you were wrong sometime in the past and adapting to a new idea that makes your life better in the present moment.

There’s nothing worse than being stagnant in life, with a fixed mindset that refuses to adapt to new thought patterns, that refuses to learn from mistakes and do things differently the next time a similar situation arises.

And there’s nothing wrong with changing how you think about things. There’s nothing weak or unintelligent about updating your perspectives. In fact, the smartest people, the ones who navigate life more gracefully, are the ones who aren’t afraid to think differently.

Life is constantly teaching you, guiding you toward where you need to be. That’s what growth is. That’s the meaning of life. Development, self-improvement, and unfoldment.

Be open. Be curious. Adapt to the changing wind. Adjust your sails.
