Every Heartbreak Has A Lesson

Every person you meet is your teacher, especially the ones you fall in love with. Learn the lessons that a heartbreak teaches you. Keep your head up and keep moving forward.

Have you ever fallen in love with someone who didn't reciprocate that love? Or have you been in a loving relationship that ultimately failed?

I have experienced my fair share of heartbreaks. I am well aware of the immense pain, hopelessness, and vulnerability that comes with such moments. It felt as if the world was ending, as if life had lost all meaning because I believed that person was ‘the one.’ Then, I eventually managed to move forward, met someone new, fell in love once more, and experienced heartbreak again. This pattern repeated itself several times, some being more painful than others. With each heartbreak came a valuable lesson.

For instance, Yogi Ramacharaka writes that one must "suffer all the pain that comes to one who loves in vain. The result is that they would be brought to a realization of the sacredness of human affection and the unkindness of trifling with it." In other words, the person who loves in vain learns the value of love and learns not to take it for granted.

And that's the mindset we should cultivate when dealing with a broken heart. There is no escape from the pain. You have to feel it. You have to accept it. You have to keep moving through life. Time and the right mindset will eventually heal you. You have to be able to, amidst the pain, reflect on the experience and find out what it is that you have to learn.

You have to be able to step aside, see the situation from above, and remind yourself that life is perfect. That everything is happening for you as it's supposed to happen for your ultimate good. Every person you meet is your teacher, especially the ones you fall in love with. Learn the lessons that a heartbreak teaches you. Keep your head up and keep moving forward.
