Focus On What You Have

You are breathing. You have eyes to read. You have tools to learn. You have food and clothes and a home. You are alive! And how wonderful it is to experience whatever life gives you. Be grateful for existing. Embrace the full spectrum of life's offerings.

For nearly a decade, I've faithfully kept a gratitude journal. I started with the Five Minute Journal, and now I continue the practice in a regular weekly planner/journal. It's a simple yet transformative ritual.

Each day, whether morning or night, I pause to reflect and jot down three things I'm grateful for. Admittedly, I don't always maintain this practice flawlessly, but I make an effort not to miss any days.

Why?

Because this habit has become an anchor, shaping my perspective in profound ways. It's a gentle nudge for my mind to tune into the abundance that surrounds me, to embrace the silver linings in every experience. It brings my attention from the things I want to the things I have.

From the shoes on my feet to the car I drive, from the warmth of my bed to the city I live in, from my wonderful wife to the close friends I have, I've learned to cherish everything, even the seemingly mundane aspects of life. Even the trials and tribulations hold a special place because they've sculpted me into who I am today.

Why focus on the things I lack or the things not yet experienced? It's like sabotaging oneself.

Instead, shift your focus—towards the present moment, towards the blessings that grace your life each day.

Take a moment today to reflect on three things you're grateful for. It just takes a few minutes of your day, a small investment with profound returns. Close your eyes, let gratitude wash over you. Make it a daily habit.

You are breathing. You have eyes to read. You have tools to learn. You have food and clothes and a home. You are alive! And how wonderful it is to experience whatever life gives you. Be grateful for existing. Embrace the full spectrum of life's offerings.
