Return to a Natural State of Breathing

The Yogis know that breathing properly is the first and simplest step you can take to be healthy. Fill up all of your lungs.

Have you ever seen a baby breathe? Have you noticed how their little bellies grow every time they take a breath? That’s because, unconsciously, they are breathing properly. A baby fills up all of their lungs, as nature intended. And then the baby grows into civilized society, adopts bad postures and habits, and stops filling up all of their lungs.

Every time you breathe, purely oxygenated blood inside the lungs flows like a fresh stream from the mountains and comes back as a stream of sewage water. The “used” blood is then distributed among the millions of tiny air cells in the lungs. When you inhale the next breath of air, the oxygen comes in contact with the “used” blood, and a form of combustion takes place. The blood absorbs the oxygen and releases the foul gas of waste matter carried from all parts of your body. Then the purified and oxygenated blood is carried back to the heart and pumped back to nourish all your organs.

What do you think happens if you don’t breathe enough fresh air into your lungs?

Well, your blood won’t receive enough oxygen, and instead of returning back to the body properly nourished, it will go back a little bit dirty and won't provide the necessary nutrients and vitality your organs need. And then you'll be susceptible to disease.

In other words, if you want to give your body the best chance to remain in a healthy condition, breathe properly. Fill up all of your lungs. Be like a baby. Return to a natural state of breathing.

The Yogis know that breathing properly is the first and simplest step you can take to be healthy.

Breathing is more than just a mundane bodily function. It lies at the very core of our existence—it's the essence of life itself. Without correct breathing, other functions of the body may not work properly.

Take a moment to notice your breath right now. On your next inhale, fill the lower, middle, and upper parts of your lungs slowly and steadily. Then exhale slowly. When you drive, when you walk, when you sit, when you exercise, remind yourself to fill up all of your lungs. Start with the belly, end with the chest. Give your body the best chances to stay healthy.
