The Book That Changed My Life
The oldest philosophy in the world has trained me to perceive life from a broader perspective and therefore, navigate life with more inner peace.
It was a night after a full, long day of work at my newly opened restaurant in 2013. My cousin, who was like my right hand at the restaurant, and I would engage in deep conversations during the rides home after closing up shop. On one of those nights, he mentioned a book his girlfriend had found - a printed PDF. He shared it with me, marking the beginning of my journey into the world of the Yogi philosophy.
Growing up Catholic, I found religion to be abstract, filled with parables, and lacking clear explanations. This led me away from the church and toward a more scientific mindset, where everything needed factual proof.
While science provides valuable explanations, it doesn't address the deeper questions about our consciousness and the ultimate nature of reality. On the other hand, religion often asks us to "have faith" without delving into any details.
In my quest for self-understanding, I began reading the book my cousin gave me, "Fourteen Lessons in Yogi Philosophy and Oriental Occultism."
Occultism? What? That might sound like black magic or dark topics, but I quickly realized it was the opposite. It offered Sesame Street-like values and easily understandable explanations of complex concepts. It's called occult because it represents knowledge that was once hidden from the general public. That’s all.
The author, Yogi Ramacharaka, delved deeply into profound subjects, explaining with clarity and precision, making even complex ideas accessible to anyone. Just as we understand our physical bodies, it's essential to comprehend our consciousness and the nature of reality. And this book provided that explanation.
While we often hear that we are mind, body, and soul, the Yogi philosophy goes beyond this and explains each of them in greater detail. It is the oldest philosophy in the world, providing insight into the composition of humans that has been known for thousands of years.
As a skeptical person who values experimentation and proof, the principles of the Yogi philosophy made sense to me. They resonated deeply and aligned with modern psychology and philosophy. These principles trained me to perceive life from a broader perspective and therefore, navigate life with more inner peace.
I created a summary of the first few pages of that book. If you want to discover what you are truly made of according to the Yogi philosophy, I encourage you to download this free ebook.
